Mary smiled as the wind played with her hair, tied back with a colorful hair scrunchie. A few beads of sweat emerged on her forehead, and she ran her hand over them. As she did almost every morning, she was taking a run. She was wearing some gray sweat pants that fell above her knee and a black tank top with a floral type design. Her white pumas hit the concrete sidewalk with a slight sound. The shoes were new and clean, but she knew in a few weeks they would be dirty and ugly. Her black ipod was in her pocket along with her purple cell phone and car keys, the headphones in her ears. She always listened to music to keep her pumped on her runs.
She was almost all the way around the park again, to complete her fifth lap. The park, being very, very big, had a sidewalk that ran around the perimeter. Beyond that was soft grass, and a big playground, basketball courts, tennis walls, and just about anything else you could imagine. She had been running for just about a half an hour as she finished her fifth lap, and slowed down. She pulled her hair from the hair tie and let if fall nicely onto her shoulders as it usually fell. She wiped away more beads of sweat and turned in a half circle and walked a few steps backwards. She admired the beauty of the park, turning in another circle, a slow circle. There were little birds chirping in the trees and a few other people, but not many, walking around. It was early, about seven 'o clock.
She was lost in thought as she took a few more steps backwards. She suddenly hit something hard, and it was not a pole or a tree. She turned around quickly, grabbing the headphones that fell from her ears, and looked up to see a boy, about her age. "I'm sorry!" she said immediately, "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there.." her voice faded as she noticed that she was only a few inches from the boy, and he looked extremely familiar. She took a step back and took a second look. She had no idea who he was, but he was extremely cute.

Caden couldn't decide what to do that day. He woke up a little bit later than usual, but he wasn't tired, so he didn't mind. He grabbed his phone, replying to a message from his brother Jason. He had kind of been ignoring him for a while, but at least Jay didn't push him to date girls that would make him climb the social ladder.
He deicded to go for a walk in the park, try and forget about the whole issue with his brothers. He didn't feel like talking to them right now, and he knew that they would never go to the park. He threw on a t-shirt, jeans, and put on his green converse. He grabbed a pair of ray-bans then went out, phone in hand.
He got to the park, noting that there was almost no one there. He was looking at a sign in a lightpost when someone bumped into him. He turned around, and noticed that it was a girl from o'ahu. A cute girl, he added. I'm sorry, I didn't see you there.. she said. "It's cool," he said. "It's Mary, right?" she was a sophmore, and he was pretty sure he had seen her around campus.

Oh my god, it's Caden Renalds! the words flew through her mind. The energy she had one had while running had disappeared upon impact with the boy, and her shy, quiet way had returned to her. She nodded as an answer to his question, and looked down slightly "You're Caden, right?" she asked quietly, much quieter than her call of saying sorry. She hated how one moment she could be so happy and outgoing, or appear to be, and then the next, her quiet and shy self.
"I've seen you around, you go to Oahu," she added quickly, looking up again. She did not really know much about Caden. Well, she did. She did not ever really hear him talk, only his friends and brothers, and she knew he was quiet, just like her. He was the youngest brother of the Renalds' brothers, Jason and Shane, and he was most likely to go out with Vanessa Lawrence. Just that thought made her queasy. Vanessa Lawrence was lucky.

He listened for a minute, then nodded his head, saying that yes in fat he was Caden. "That's me," he said with a small smile on his face. He noticed how she got quiet all of a sudden. It reminded Caden of himself, whenever he was around his brothers. "Sophmore." he added. They had seen eah other around campus, so luckily he wasn't just crazy or anything. He wondered for a moment what she had heard about him. He was defnitley in Shane and Jason's shadow, but he knew that people did know him, and people did have opinions.

She nodded and gave a small smile. "Same here. I think you're in my math class," she said, trying to think of something to talk about other than sit there and look stupid. She thought about all the gossip around school, and hoped none of it was about her, because if it was, she knew he would have heard about it. Mary didn't pay attention to gossip. She knew things, but she didn't really care. She knew that all the gossip started with The Kings and the Island Princesses, moving itself downward to her small, nerdy clique. She just hoped that there was not much of a first impression on her because of gossip.

There was lot of smiling and nodding going on between Mary and Caden, but not as much talking. "Yeah," he said. "THat class is so boring," he said, rolling his eyes for emphasis. "I would much rather be in music class." It was true, he would pretty much rather play music than do anything in the world. If somebody offfered him a million dollars to stop playing, he wouldn't be able to. "Wouldn't you?" he inquired. After all, wasn't everybdy here because they loved music?

"Yeah," she said, instead of nodding. She rarely said something in substitute of nodding. "Do you like music?" she asked, immediately regretting it. Didn't everyone in Oahu love music? "I- I mean, what do you play?" she added quickly, hoping she had not made that much of a fool out of herself. She felt that if the conversation kept moving so that they talked more, this could be a very good day. She absentmindedly took her hair tie from her hands and put it around her wrist, just remembering that a fem minutes ago she had run more than a mile. She was still sweating a bit and was tired. "Do you want to sit down?" she asked hopefully.

A small laugh escaped his lips when she asked if he loved music. "Definitley." he said. "I play guitar, keyboard, drums, plus I sing and write songs." In his head, he was smacking himself over and over again. It wasn't like she had asked for his resume! Why couldn't he just have said 'guitar' like a normal person and leave it at that. Caden thought that Mary was going to think that he was a show off. "What do you play?" he asked her. "Sitting down would be fine." he waited for her to sit down, not sure where she wanted to sit down.

She smiled and sat down on a nearby blue bench, the closest place she could find. "Well, minus the drums, that's pretty much what I do," she said, "But I've been dying to learn drums," she added. She had not met many people that played drums, but the instrument sounded exciting, and she'd always wanted to learn.
ooc: sorry, short! i'm rushing! oh, and I watched a youtube video by selena and david henrie, and it says that in an episode of WOWP they'll have a band and selena "Alex" plays drums, lol

As Mary sat down on the blue park bench, so did he. She looked like she had been out for a jog or something, not just taking a leisurley stroll like he was. "Cool," he said when she said that she did pretty much everything she did. "Drums are fun," he said with a small smile. "i've never had any formal training for drums, I kind of just sit down and start playing," he added. That statement could be taken either two ways: one, that he wasn't any good, or two, that he was just a natural at playing the drums. Dang it! There he went with showing off again. Why did he have to sound so self-centered? He didn't know, and he hoped Mary didn't notice or mind. At least, not mind a lot.

She smiled again. Well, at least they had something in common. "That's cool," she said, trying to think of something else to say. "So, do you do anything else besides music?" she asked finally. She thought it was a stupid question, but they couldn't just sit around and talk about drums all day. She was happy that even though they were both quiet, they could still talk.

This conversation consisted mostly of nodding and the word cool. So far, Caden had just made himself sound like a blabbering idiot. I mean, who said "cool" in every other sentence? Who nodded instead of saying "yes"? Apparently, Caden did those kinds of things.
She changed the sbject on what he did besides music. "Well mosltly music," he said. "But I play soccer and text like crazy." He was addicted to texting. He managed to go through this whole conversation without his phone, which was quite something, truth be told. "What about you?"' he tried to shift the focus to her again.

"Well, I jog, as you can probably tell, dance, and skateboard," she said, "And I used to play basketball and soccer," she added. She really sounded like a busy freak, now that she thought of it. Great, she thought to herself, Now not only am I shy and quiet, I'm also a busy-scheduled freak! It was not as bad as usual. She never had been able to talk to a guy without saying something stupid except for her brother and Joey. But surprisingly, things were not going so bad with Caden. But when she was back at school, she did not know how it would be. He might just ignore her like the other 'popular' people did.

Under his breath, he agreed with her by saying "yeah". Whoa, this girl wsa busy. Busy and talented he thought to himself. And she skateboarded? That was a plus for sure. Caden had skateboarded before, although he preffered biking. "What position did you play in soccer?" he asked. He used to play basketball, but didn't know enough to keep up decent conversation.

"Defense." she said quietly, "But I don't play much anymore," she added. That was true. She was not necessarily busy, but had made the choice to cut down on sports for a while to be able to focus more on her music. She still liked to kick the ball around the field sometimes, though. "What about you?" she asked him. She did not really suspect him to be any position. People always suspected her to be defense, because she didn't like to be the star of the show, scoring all the goals. She just liked to crush the dreams of anyone wanting to be the star of the show by taking the ball away from them.
ooc: the only reason i picked defense is because that's what I play, so i know more about it!
