That was not the answer she had been expecting, but she nodded. "As much as I'm not sure to believe that, I will for now," she said, playing a few random chords on the guitar. It was much nicer than her old, almost broken guitar that sat on her dorm bed in it's case at the very moment. This guitar was shinning new, and tunned perfectly. She held it out to Shane. "Play something," she said, standing up from the chair she had been sitting in. If Shane was as good as everyone said he was, she had to hear him play.

there was a msile on shanes face until she said she woul dbelieve him for now. it slightly went away, but it was completely gone when she extended the guitar out to him. "here? in front of the humanity of the mall?" he asked. didn't he already make it clear that he didn't want to perform anything here? then, something popped in his head. maybe he should play something. he for sure didn't want demi thinking he was some fake or anything of that sort. he looked at her and then at the guitar again. taking it in his hand, he sighed and sat down in the chair. he looked at it for a moment, tryin gto remember a song and glanced up and around the store. nobody was looking, yet. that was good. "okay, if i mess up i don't want to hear anything about going around school," he told her, looking up at her direction. taking a deep breath, he began to play a tune and singing the following lyrics. "everytime i think i'm closer to the heart, of what it means to know just who i am. i think i've finally found a better place to start, but no one never seems to under stand. i need to try to get to where you are, could it be your not that far. your th evoice i here inside my head, the reason that i'm singing i need to find you. i gotta find. your the missing peice i need the song inside of me i need to find, i gotta you. yeah yeah." and with that, he quickly stopped playing and laid the guitar down. "there, are you happy?" he asked.

She smiled as he played. Once he had finished and asked if the was happy, she nodded. "That was good," she said, "I guess you are as talented as they say you are." She tried not to think about his comment about the gossip in school. Why did he keep bringing it up? Was it really that important to him? She shook the thoughts away and sat down on an extra chair. "So, did you write that?" she asked.

"ya, i wrote a while back when i was bored in my dorm." he looked down at his feet for a moment nad looked back at her. "was it bad?" he asked her, wanting a critque, "be honest," he added. he alway sthought it was find of bad in a way, but he never liked anything her wrote. that was why he left all the song writing to his brothers.

"No, it was good," she said again, "I don't lie." She really did like the song. Shane was really talented. "I don't think I could have ever written something like that." She told lots of people that. They always thought that she was a better songwriter, but she never thought so. She could always fin imperfections in her work, and she would go over it over and over again until they were perfect.

shane smiled, "it was good wasn't it?" he said, "i mean, um, thanks." his smile got bigger for a moment and went away. "you can write just about anything if you really think about it. the best lyrics come from raw emotion. if your mad, write a song about it and if your really happy, write a song about why your happy. it al really has to come together." he explained to her. he never talked to anyone like that before, since no one ever wanted to listen to shane renalds explain how to write a song. he was actually enjoying talking to demi.

Demi nodded and looked down. "Yeah, that's how I write them," she said, smiling. She looked back up and then around the store. It was pretty empty, only a few workers walking by and some people looking at guitars. "Want to hear one of mine?" she asked. There was nobody around, and there was no reason to be embarrassed in front of nobody. She never did get stage fright, but she felt slightly nervous anyways.

"ya," he said with a smile and handed her the guitar. he wanted to hear her sing again like she did at the tiki hut at the beginning of the year thing. he remembered her voice being very pure and beautiful sounding. he liked it a lot.

Demi smiled and took the guitar, placing it on her lap and searching her head for a song. She finally picked one, a slightly old song that she had written less than a year ago, and had worked on a lot. She took a deep breath and began, "Did you forget that I was even alive did you forget everything we ever had, did you forget, did you forget, about me. Did you regret ever standing by my side did you forget what we were feeling inside, now i'm left, to forget about us. But somewhere we went wrong, we were once so strong, our love is like a song, you can't forget it. And at last all the pictures have been burned, and all the past is just a lesson that we've learned. I won't forget, I won't forget, us. But somewhere we went wrong, our love is like a song. But you won't sing along, you've forgotten, about, us," she sang the song as she usually did sitting in her room and on stage on Saturdays, but a bit quieter than when she was on stage, because Shane was the only one who needed to hear her. When she finished, she took a deep breath and smiled. She had been looking down the whole time, and hid her face now because she was afraid of what he thought of it.
ooc: i love that song! this is my favorite video of it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-diUQ71G78

shane listened to her play and gave a disgusted look. "that sucked," he said, trying to be serious when he wasn't. after a moment, just to see demi's reaction, he quickly said, "i'm just kidding," and smiled. "it was actually really good, great even," he told her. for the first time he actually liked a song someone else was singing that wasn't one that he ever sang. he thought that was strange, but ignored that.

Demi rolled her eyes. "I don't find you very amusing," she said, "But I guess I'll take that as a compliment." She did not know why, but she was actually pleased that Shane liked her song. It was odd, but she decided that if he kept up being nice, she might actually tolerate him.

"good," shane said with a nod, "because thats what it was." he smiled once more. was he smiling way too much? he really couldn't help it. when he was happy, he smiled and talking to demi made him very happy. "do you write a lot of songs?" he asked her. maybe she'd have others he could hear. not that the one she just sang wasn't good, he just liked that one so much he wanted to her more.

She nodded and smiled. "Journals and journals full of them," she said. It was true. She'd rather be writing songs more than anything else. It was her way of calming down if she was mad or confessing when she was sad. And how she told people she was happy. Her journals of songs kinda reminded her of journal entries, depending on how she felt some days. "But they're not all that good," she said. Something people could not stand about her is that she was too modest sometimes about her music.

"i'll be the one to say there not good," he said. he hated when people could be so harsh about there own work. it couldn't have been that bad. heck, she had already proven how talented she was. could it go down hill from there? "i think i need to see this journal of yours. it really can't be too bad. at least not as bad as my songs." he looked at his feet and then looked at her, expecting some sort of sympathy.

Demi laughed as he said that he would be the one to judge if her songs were bad or not. "Ah, no," she said, "That journal is personal. If you want to hear another song, you'll have to come to the Tiki Hut on Saturday like everyone else," she said. "And I'm sure if your song are as good as that one you just played, you're definitly not a bad songwriter," she said.
