Demi clutched her red jansport backpack to her side, one strap on her shoulder, as she walked towards the school. She looked down at her outfit, just to make sure she looked okay for her first day at school. She was wearing her 'ROCKER' tee with her gray pinstripe vest, jean shorts, black hat, red high converse, and her guitar pick necklace that she wore everywhere. Her makeup was her usual, mascara, eyeliner, and black eyeshadow. But it was not as drastic as she usually wore it. She also wore some lip gloss,he loved the stuff, and had her freshly painted nails, black, of course.
She was nervous, and her stomach flip flopped. Ever since last night, the begining of the year party. She had performed at open mike night, her song, Get Back. And everyone loved it, expecially Brooke Carter. Even the new kids knew about Brooke, the queen of the school. And Brooke had asked Demi to be in her clique, to replace some Vanessa Lawrence girl. But, Demi had denied the request, which surprised everyone at the party and angered Brooke.
Now Demi only had one thing on her mind; last night. She was nervous. Everyone had loved her performance, and about twenty kids told her she was fantastic. But that was what she was afraid of. Demi had always blended in. In everything. She had never taken any singing lessons because she feared the misfortune of being different, even if that meant special. She knew she was talented, but no one else had known until last night.
Even walking up the sidewalk, she noticed people staring. They recognized her. Some girls even said, "Hi, Demi!" as she walked by. Demi smiled and waved back. "Hi," she replied to them. Demi had always been a little shy. She was way social, but she had always been the girl in the corner to people that did not know her. But it was different now. Demi sat down on an empty bench below a tree. New school, new Demi, she thought to herself.

Walking wasn't one of Lyane's favorite activities. Especially not when the sun was beating down on her. However it was the only form of transportation. She walked to the Academy, a short walk from her dorm. Being a senior she got one of the best ones. Coming up th walk, a couple of people greeted her with 'hi' and 'what's up?' but nobody important enough to stop for.
Her mind kept on going back to last night, open mile night. Brooke had been blown away by this new girl's performance. The brunette beauty couldn't even remember the performer's name. Emma? Emmy? No, she remembered finally. It was Demi. Brooke had wanted to replace Vannessa with Demi, but she refused. This was a major first for the Island Princesses. Nobody ever turned a spot down.
Her mind came back to her once she was on the front lawn, closer to the school than before. She grabbed her pseudo backpack, which was really a Coach bag. The cardigan she was wearing was making her warm, she wanted to find some shade. She spotted a bench under a tree and walked over to it. She recognized the reson sitting on the bench: Demi. Brooke would get mad if she found out that they had been sitting together, but she was willing to take that chance. "Do you mind?" she said, pointing to the open seat. [/blockquote]

Demi watched all the people walking by, some giving her funny looks because they had not seen her before. God, she really hated being a new girl. And she had been one many times before. Broken out of her daydreams, a girl's voice. Demi looked up to see a pretty brunette girl, someone she thought she had seen before. "Oh, sure," she said, smiling slightly, "I'm Demi," And I'm new, she almost added. As if it was not obvious enough.
She took a second look at this girl. She now recognized her. She had been sitting next to Brooke at the open mic night. Oh great, she thought, Please don't be like Brooke! Even being a new girl, Demi knew of Brooke Carter. Everyone knew her name, and knew who she was. And Demi had already had the misfortune of meeting her.

The girl, like Lyane only moments before, had obviously been day dreaming. As soon as she said it was okay, she sat down on the bench. Part of her didn't know why she asked permission, the other side told that side to be quiet. "I'm Lyane," she said, flashing a smile.
A flash of recognition went through the girl's eyes. She must have remebered her from open mic night. A little bit of terror was there too. Anyone who was on Brooke Carter's good side was not someone who you wanted to get on their bad side. Even though they were best friends, She had to admit that sometimes Brooke could be a little harsh. "I think we met before. Well, maybe not met, but saw each other at open mic night?" this sentence shouldn't have been a question, but it was. She wanted this girl to confirm or deny the previous meeting. "You're pretty good at singing," she said. What a lame thing to say, she thought to herself. Of course she's good! That's why she's at the Academy!

Demi smiled slightly. She somehow could sense that this girl had just read her mind. "Oh, yeah, I think I saw you there," she said, trying to sound casual. Well, of course you saw her, she thought. She felt like she was not necesarily making a good first impression. Then she remembered that her first impression to everyone was last night. Oh great, she thought, I wonder if I've already been labled off as a music geek. She hoped she had not been. But she knew she was one at heart.
She smiled. She liked compliments. But sometimes she wished she did not feel like such a show off. There had been many other great performances at mic night. But for some reason, everyone was talking about he's. Oh great, I am a music geek, she thought. "Thanks," she told Lyane. "Do you sing? I mean, do you play anything?" Duh, of course she did. Everyone at the academy did!

Sometimes Lyane could be too quick to judge. Being around Brooke and the other Island Princesses had that effect on her. Suprisingly, she wasn't doing that to Demi, who she was supposed to not be talking to or anything becuase she denied a spot in the clique.
The girl took in her genuine compliment, a smile spreading across her face. Lyne hd to smille too. "Um, I do sing." She was always a little nervous about saying that she sung cause the largest crowd she had ever sung to was probably about twenty people. "But I play guitar, along with a couple of other random instruments." Just saying that seemed like she was showing off. She didn; 't add that she wrote songs. [/blockquote]

Demi smiled. "That's cool," she said, "I play guitar and piano along with my singing and songwriting. My dad taught me," she said, then wishing she had not said that. She never brought her dad up in anything. Well, not usually, anyways. "I wish I played more, though, I love instruments," she added quickly. "So, I'm guessing you went to O'ahu last year?" she asked. She took her red backpack off her back and sat it down on her lap.

She listened as Demi spoke. "Well those are the basics for great songs right there," she said, as the young girl named off the instruments she played. "Instruments all give different emotions to the music." she said. She probably sounded weird when she said that, but any great musician knew that. "Yeah, I've gone to the Academy since I was a freshman." she added. Her fourth and final year here was just around the corner.
ooc: sorry for the short post!
